and Torreblanca hold a European blue flag award.

Beaches
La Cala – 10 min's
This 2,000 meter long beach, with south and south west
orientation, won the E.U. Blue Flag award in 2002. This
is a lovely semi-urban beach in summer and winter alike,
with a very nice promenade and plenty of good beach
bars and restaurants along the way.
There are beach beds and parasols for hire, public toilets
and changing facilities available and showers at various
points along the beach.
In the summer period there is a lifeguard service and
the beach is accessible to the disabled. There is plenty
of parking, but it can sometimes become difficult and
congested at the peak of the high season in July and
especially August. The hire of water sports gear is
in abundance in summer, but less evident in from the
end of October to Easter, when the beach is quieter.
Calahonda – 15mins
This is the longest of the Mijas Costa beaches at over
4,500 meters long. Since it is right at the foot of
the large Sitio de Calahonda urbanization, it is a well
used beach, with ramp access, many beach bars and lots
of activity, but it also has some quieter corners for
those who prefer a bit of piece and quiet. This beach
is perfect for the whole family and caters for sunbathers,
scuba divers and fishermen alike. It is a fairly straight
line of beach with golden sand and plenty of beach beds
and parasols for rent and a good choice of lively beach
bars for refreshment and entertainment.

Golf Courses
There are nearly 60 golf courses in Andalucia, of which
30 are on the Costa del Sol. The fine weather makes
golf popular all year round.
When the Costa del Sol experienced a renaissance as
a winter golf resort in the late 1980s, the phrase Costa
del Golf was coined. Between 1985 and 1991, no fewer
than 17 new golf courses appeared, bringing the total
along this 50 mile stretch of coast up to over 30. This
concentration of quality golf courses, combined with
the sunny and warm winter climate, has made it unrivalled
as a winter golf destination for northern Europeans.
They in turn have emerged as a serious force at all
levels of golf.

Shopping
The area has a wide choice of shopping centres that
offer good value for money against some of our high
street stores in the UK. Perfect for when you want to
get away from the afternoon sun. The huge Parque Miramar
shopping center and multi screen cinema. It is very
close (within walking distance) to the popular Dunnes
store creating a large out of town shopping district
in itself. Miramar Parque shopping centre has a large
free underground car park and shops include Benetton,
Jack Jones, Timberland, Zara, Golf USA and the Eroski
hypermarket which is a shopping centre in its own right.
The centre is located just off the N340 after the Fuengirola
exit and can be reached within 10 minutes. The El Corte
Ingles store in Fuengirola is somewhere between Debenhams
and Selfridges in the UK, selling everything you could
possibly need and is only 10 min's from the apartment.
La Canada Shopping Centre, Marbella has recently been
extended and now offering you practically everything
you could ask for in a shopping centre with a huge variety
of shops including a huge supermarket called Alcampo,
Ten Pin Bowling & Multiplex Cinema. La Canada is
located on the N340, on the junction for ‘Ojen’,
‘Parque Commercial’ and McDonalds. La Canada
is about 20 minutes drive from our apartment.
